We still have the walnut dresser Lucy James Douglass Strong gave to her daughter, Lucy James, and Isaac McClure Criner as a wedding present in March, 1858. Three months after her beloved daughter and namesake died of quick consumption, Lucy died. We have visited the Strong family graveyard now on private property in northern Alabama where Robert and Lucy James Strong and Isaac McClure and Lucy James Criner are buried. The cemetery, sadly, had been vandalized and tombstones thrown down. The inscription on the Lucy James Douglass stone:
"God has called for her to go
And leave this world of sin and woe.
She has obeyed and gone to rest
And sleep upon her Saviour's breast."
