The McCain family came to Alabama around 1805 soon after the Criners arrived. Isaac and Nancy married Nov. 23, 1815. Here are excerpts from Nancy's obituary: "Departed this life...Mrs. Nancy Criner, consort of Isaac Criner, in the 51st year of her age, the greater portion of which time she has resided in this county. She left a husband and twelve children to mourn their irreparable loss. She professed religion and attached herself to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church since which time she has adorned her profession. In the death of this woman her husband has lost an amiable wife, her children a kind and affectionate mother, the poor a charitable friend and the church a worthy member and one of its brightest ornaments....During her confinement, which was but four days, she suffered much bodily pain, yet she was never heard to complain but bore it with Christian fortitude; and when the hour of dissolution came, after giving her family and friends a strong exhortation to prepare to meet her in heaven, she then took leave of them, and with a smile fell asleep sweetly in the arms of her Savior."
